How to Apply Builder Gel: A Step-by-Step Guide

Mastering builder gel is essential for creating long-lasting, durable manicures. Here is how to achieve the perfect application:

Step 1: Prep the Nail Plate Thorough prep is key. Push back cuticles and gently buff the natural nail to remove shine. Cleanse and dehydrate the nail plate to ensure optimal adhesion.

Step 2: Base Coat & Slip Layer Apply a thin layer of Base Coat and cure. Next, apply a "slip layer" of builder gel to the nail but do not cure yet. This wet layer guides the product, helping it self-level perfectly.

Step 3: Build the Structure Pick up a bead of builder gel and float it near the cuticle area (without touching the skin). Gently guide the product down the nail to build your apex (structure). This adds strength to the stress point of the nail. Flash cure if necessary to freeze the shape, then full cure in your LED lamp.

Step 4: Refine & Finish Wipe away the sticky inhibition layer with cleanser. File and shape the nail extensions to your desired look. Finish with a Top Coat or layer a gel polish colour on top.

    Who it’s for?

    • Nail techs wanting a dependable, high-quality system with consistent viscosity and shade staples.

    • At-home enthusiasts ready for pro-style structure (pair with our UV/LED lamp and prep tools).

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

    Q: What is Builder Gel?

A: Builder Gel is a thick, high-viscosity gel product designed for creating durable nail extensions, overlays, and strengthening the natural nail. Unlike regular gel polish, builder gel provides structure and support, making it ideal for sculpting longer nails or reinforcing weak nail plates.

Q: How do you use Builder Gel?

A: Start by prepping the natural nail, clean, buff, and apply a base coat. Then apply a slip layer of builder gel before floating a larger bead to build structure. Cure under a UV or LED lamp. Once the structure is complete, file and shape the nails.

Q: How do you remove Builder Gel?

A: Begin by filing the bulk of the product down (an E-File is best for this). Soak the remaining product in acetone for 15–20 minutes. Use a cuticle pusher to gently push off the softened builder gel. Finish by hydrating with cuticle oil.

Q: How long does it last?

A: With proper application and care, gel can last up to 3-4 weeks without lifting or chipping. Longevity depends on factors like nail prep, application technique, and aftercare (such as using cuticle oil and avoiding harsh chemicals).

Q: Is Builder Gel the same as BIAB?

A: Not exactly. Builder Gel and BIAB (Builder in a Bottle) both strengthen the nail. However, pot Builder Gel is typically thicker and better for sculpting long nail extensions, whereas BIAB is often used for natural nail overlays with a brush-on application.

Q: Can I use Gel to extend nails without tips?

A: Yes! Our builder gel can be used with nail forms to sculpt extensions directly from the natural nail without using plastic tips. This technique creates a strong, seamless extension with a natural C-curve.

Q: What lamp should I use to cure Belle Beauty's Gel?

A: Our Gel Collection is compatible with both UV and LED lamps. Belle Beauty's UV Nail Lamp is perfect for curing your gel manicures.

    Q: Can beginners use Gel?

A: Absolutely! While gel requires a bit more precision than regular polish, Belle Beauty’s self-levelling formula makes it beginner-friendly. With a little practice, even at-home users can achieve strong, professional-looking nails.

Q: Is this Gel HEMA & TPO Free

A: Yes! Our professional builder gels are completely free from TPO and HEMA, reducing the risk of allergies without sacrificing the thick, ultra-rich consistency you need for sculpting.
